Engineering Mechanics Textbook by R.K. Bansal.
The textbook is devoted to the study of one of the most important areas of machine and mechanism design – applied mechanics.
The textbook outlines the main provisions of the theory, methods of research and calculation of kinematic and force parameters of the dynamics of mechanisms.
Examples of calculations of mechanisms using modern methods of design are given.
The book is a textbook for students of mechanical engineering universities and technical universities.
It can also be used by specialists of machine-building and design-technological organizations involved in the design and calculation of mechanisms of machines.
The book deals with the main issues of designing, calculation and construction of machine parts and assemblies.
The main emphasis is placed on the consecutive presentation of the material, which is divided into two parts, having independent value.
The first part deals with the design and calculation of shafts and sliding bearings for strength, stiffness and vibration resistance, the second part – the design and calculation of the housing parts and couplings.
The main emphasis is placed on a sequential presentation of the material, which is divided into two parts that have independent significance.
The first part deals with the design and calculation of shafts and sliding bearings for strength, stiffness and vibration resistance, the second part deals with the design and calculation of housing parts and couplings.
The main ways of improving the durability of machine parts and structures, ways to reduce noise and vibration, as well as issues of electrical and automation.

Main characteristics of animal and plant cells
The cell is the basic structural and functional unit of all living organisms.
Cells can be unicellular or multicellular.
In multicellular organisms cells perform specialized functions: for example, in plant cells – photosynthesis, in animals – digestion of food, in bacterial cells – respiration, etc. In unicellular organisms cells perform all these functions, but only one of them (e.g., in cyanobacteria) may be dominant and the rest – facultative.
In addition, depending on the functions performed, cells in a multicellular organism may be specialized: for example, liver cells produce cholesterol, intestinal cells absorb nutrients, skin cells retain moisture, etc.
Depending on the function possessed by the cell, a distinction is made:
– Eukaryotic cells that have the ability to divide and have a formalized cell nucleus.
Cells without the ability to divide are called prokaryotic (bacteria).
Viruses have a similar type of cell structure (the AIDS virus is an example).
Prokaryotic cells have no nucleus.
The cell of a unicellular organism consists of one or more, sometimes very large, plastids without nuclei.
In this case the cell is called a chloro- or chromosome.
Chromosomes of prokaryotes are represented by circular DNA molecules.
The cell wall of such organisms is not expressed or is absent.
Some prokaryotes lost their cell nucleus in the course of evolution, e.g. cyanobacteria.
In all other prokaryotes DNA in the nucleoid is not involved in transcription, and in archaea and eukaryotes it is arranged as a linear DNA molecule.
In the course of evolution, prokaryotes lost the ability to synthesize all the substances necessary for their vital activity (e.g. amino acids and carbohydrates) due to the absence of a digestive vacuole and digestive enzymes in their cells.
Some species of prokaryotes have an endoplasmic reticulum in their cells.
