to manually upgrade from blender 2.79 to blender 2.80, you will need the version check tool. once you have blender 2.80 installed, you will need to delete the installation folder for blender 2.80 in the documents\blender\2.79 folder. then open the blender 2.80 installation folder in the documents\blender folder and replace the 2.79 folder with the 2.80 folder. restart blender.
