I also want to add that you should not underestimate the importance of teachers. You are right. But we also need to look at different problems in western countries. For example, in United States, a child may spend two years or more in kindergarten or primary school, before being assigned a full-time math teacher. This is far from being ideal. However, the child will be assessed to allow the school to develop the curriculum in the right direction and in the best interests of the child, and this is not optional. This is the key difference, and the root cause of the problem, between the US and other developed countries.

Like you, I feel that it is the first success of Indonesia as a great independent nation but there is still a great distance to improve the education system. I studied in Germany and I was influenced by the German education system. As a result, I want to help Indonesia more to improve their education system.
I am an Indonesian which i born and raised in the Netherlands. I am moving to Michigan, USA next year to study and what makes me very happy is that i will be studying at a state university! I am going to study economics and hopefully become a CPA!

I am a teacher in Indonesia and I am really angry at this article, even though I am a teacher, I think this is a little unfair to Indonesians. I dont think I am an extremely smart person, but I am able to hold my anger and explain the reasons to this guy. I feel sorry for people in Indonesia who may not be that smart, just because they are not from the big metropolis, they cant help their poor situation. I teach in state schools and I can understand what he means, and I know there are very few teachers at my school with the help and encouragement from their senior teachers. I do a lot of research and it is really difficult to research about the students in Jakarta so I have not found out the exact figures yet. This guy wants to blame the Indonesian government for not reforming the schools and making the system work. I have to disagree, I dont think government should be the main force to reform the schools. The government should only make students do their best to help their education and learn new things. The government cant do that every day. Every students parent must teach their children their lessons, they must give their children discipline, and they must encourage their children to learn new things. Government would give more money if the students do this. Honestly, there should be no students who can not do their homework and answer questions in the test, if the government make the students do their homework and study, the system should be used as an achievement of the student.
