but, in the interest of being as open-minded as possible, i will take that chance. for starters, i believe intimacy is a brilliant film because it deals with sexuality in a way that even with the most ingrained taboos, most movies just simply can not. it seeks to touch upon the fact that the most powerful, most intimate and in many ways most intimate force in the universe is the force of love. it is the power that makes us want to be together, and it is the source of all positive relationships, including, perhaps, the relationship we experience with our most intimate partner.

all of this is, admittedly, pretty heavy stuff. intimacy deals with it head-on and makes no attempt to sugarcoat any of it. that said, it is also refreshing in that it doesn’t make the relationship that the man and woman fall in love with one another the issue. this is, admittedly, a film about the relationship of two people. but the two people are, in all honesty, not the only people in the film. in fact, they are not even the main characters. the two protagonists are, perhaps, the most naked example of what can happen when two people fall in love, and it is their love that is the main subject of the film. the presence of the two other characters was not to show you what they were thinking, but rather to show you the effect their relationship has on the ones they are trying to connect with.

it is, in many ways, an intriguing film. you may not like it, and i am certain that you will not have a problem with it. intimacy is a film that deals with hard subjects, but it is also a film that attempts to raise questions about them, and ultimately to reach for answers. even if the answers that it reaches for are not the answers you want, it is still a film that will make you think. it is a film that isn’t afraid to be unapologetic and for that reason, it is a film that is worth seeing. this is a film that seeks to address itself to everyone who watches it, and it is not afraid to tell you what it thinks.
