check out http://www.direct-pharma.com/products/proleveltours/index.htm (pharmaceutical company). there are practice tests and a study guide there for usmle. i’d do all of the online practice tests provided, the print book, and then the study guide. i think it’s easier to give yourself a time limit on your practice tests.

i just need more practice questions, i don’t need more material (although i’m very tempted to buy the same books as used by brad, i’ve looked through it and found nothing so far). it’s not so much material is needed, as it is questions.

i like their cfa level 1 study guide. it made me think and review a lot more than other level 1 study guides. it was like going through several chapters while studying.
i want to say that i passed l1 level with their online curriculum but i’m not 100% sure. i think it was good for me (it was a lot of reading, but i wasn’t just floundering). i also had a lot of support, which i’m glad about.
i liked the schedule they had provided for me, and a good recommendation to use it for the pba too. they made it really easy to access and download exams, and score them efficiently.
overall it helped me a lot and i would recommend their study guide to other people.
i failed my first exam by a hair, but i don’t think that study guide played a big role in the grade.
if you’re going to use their study guide, i recommend to read the chapters a lot.
their webinar was also a great help. i wish i had watched it a bit more and possibly re-read the sections i missed.

schweser cfa review was great. i wish i used it sooner but i got it a little late. i really liked the practice questions. you could practice the questions you will be getting on your test and do your work on paper. i did not get any sample questions. i did the best that i could with the material and passed.

get past the “hurry up” in the back of your mind and just go at your own pace. don’t make the mistake of going through the schweser book too fast, or you will be stuck with a lot of gaps left. learn one topic at a time and understand the concept of a topic in depth.
i have struggled with this material for a while. this is the first rigorous and official material that i have used. i learned two things – i was able to study a topic in detail without using the schweser material, and i am able to answer the questions in the kaplan schweser test with confidence. 🙂
i disagree with the notion that schweser is not complete/has gaps. on both level i and ii i specifically remember 1, yes only 1, question that was not covered in the schweser material. if you go through these books cover to cover a few times you will get 99% of what you need and learn things more efficiently than with cfai alone. i have used schweser and will continue to do so – i am a bit of a schweser homer though so make of it what you will. i have always felt very prepared when using their materials.
schweser is quite generous on the portfolio management questions, but as a cfa institute prep course, it really needs to focus on the exam content, to the neglect of methodology (not withstanding the mandatory time spent on gsr). l1 & ii are a little behind the times when it comes to portfolio management. i would suggest that schweser is not as up to date as some of the other candidates.
i’ve had a blast with this. you don’t have to do the books cover to cover to understand the material or have the right mindset to pass (although i recommend it, it would have been cool to use the topics covered in the books as review topics, but i guess you’ll have to get a voucher for the l2 test). i did l2 and l3 a few years ago, i believe. the books were helpful in terms of the content, but i found that my getting a full grasp of the material in a day or two was rather unrealistic. i don’t see the point in splitting this up into several days, no different than other providers who have several cfa courses available. there is a certain aspect of the course that i feel must be covered in order to get through the material in a short time. too many topics that need to be covered and so many quizzes. l3 is the same. personally, i would rather work through it in one day, and only devote a couple hours on each day to the quiz. other than that, i’m looking forward to l1. the only thing that i would suggest is that instead of just providing the curriculum section, they could provide a link or a pdf of the tutorial and the book. this would allow the user to set the timer if they choose to, or just hit the 10 or 15 minute button for the pass/fail test.
