jaycee dugard was just a regular kid until the summer of 1991 when her life was turned upside down. she was kidnapped, taken from her mother, and held hostage for more than eighteen years. it is written with an emotional quality, but is also an excellent tale of survival.

i liked that she wrote her own story and was able to be herself in a book. and she wrote of hope, a life lived. she also wrote about grief, loss and about her own sense of self. she had a vivid imagination and excelled in school. she was such a bright light, with her inquisitive mind, it’s tragic that her extraordinary talents and intellect were wasted. a stolen life is the story of a young girl who was kidnapped and then held for more than eighteen years.

the book is written from a childs perspective, almost like an autobiography. her captors wanted jaycee kept as ignorant and unaware as possible in order to keep her from the outside world. she read as though she were a normal child, even though she wasnt. she had no idea what was going on in her life. she would ask about her mother and would be told to wait, until a time when the time would be right. she never got the chance to know her mother. i admired that she was able to hold on to her normal childhood.

the book is about hope, hope that i would find my mother. i would hold on to hope, and keep hope alive. i had to do that for myself. she talked about her life, her mother, the things she missed and her life while held captive. she wrote about her captors, the people that held her captive for eighteen years. she describes her kidnappers as being evil. she would watch movies and read lots of books, she lived her life. she was held captive for more than eighteen years. the reader learns things about the kidnappers, and about the other people involved with the kidnappers. what they did, who they were, and why they acted in the ways that they did.

as you read, you begin to see these things. it is a well written book, a mixture of fiction and true events. one learns something about the world and especially the movies. the movie we had to watch was based on the case. it was an eye opener. it is also a heart breaker. the book is well written, and i felt sorry for the woman who was held captive, until i read about what happened to her after she was freed. it is a roller coaster kind of book. this book will get under your skin.

jaycees book was a great read, it will keep you awake at night and there will be a part of you that wont rest until you read it. i love that she kept a record of what happened to her. she kept the police at bay by sending letters to them every two months. she wrote to give herself strength and to never forget.
