Nowhere in the world do you get the type of soldier your team does in the Middle East. The price you pay for advancement, warfare and its weapons and tactics?

As all of you guys know there is a concern in force protection of our combat response teams and their high profile interdiction mission when it comes to dealing with sniper threats around the world.

What we have encountered on a daily basis is ISIS snipers using military grade plastic explosive at point blank range. High velocity rounds that carry “miniature” fragmentation into our soldiers lives or those of military partners.

While the situation may never change as we remain at war with ISIS there should be a change in tactics used against the enemy.

Recently we conducted a number of operations in the Middle East. The targets included insurgents keeping us away from possibly up to a dozen AK-47 rifles that could each hold 8 high velocity rounds.

Every one of the insurgents had a full magazine for each rifle. Some of these also had a scope on the rifle to ensure even tighter accuracy. U.S. forces would be engaged at possibly 400-500 meters from the enemy.

They were so accurate that they were able to find a partner teams, Sgt Dillon and GSgt Scherlig, stationed across the valley and had fixed on our team by day number one. Yet if they were able to stop them from dropping their rifles and taking aim it was not likely they would be cleared and so the standoff continued.

When we found hours of time to “maneuver” around the target areas we attempted to position our U.S. forces in a way that would allow them to observe combat so our partners were informed we were coming before anyone else.

Thankfully due to the technology that they had purchased it was difficult to see or hear a vehicle coming long before it could be observed.

On more than one occasion they were in a position to hit a U.S. vehicle that was approaching, or at best the last response team vehicle in the area would get a shot. They were in a position to engage the 2nd vehicle leaving after their previous vehicles took a shot.
