How to implement success callback for AJAX call in Angular 2.0?

Here is an example of an AJAX call using AJAX in Angular:

My question is: is it possible to implement a callback for a successful AJAX call (so that the subscribe method of an observable fires up) using Angular?
My workaround would be to initialize an empty array and then subscribe to the observable:
this.subscriptions = [];
this.subscriptions.subscribe((subscriptions) => {
// do stuff with subscriptions
});

But I was wondering if there is a better solution.

As I understand it, the recommended way to implement a successful AJAX call in Angular is the following:

On success, the call is successful, and on failure it’s an error.
