We’ve put together this easy to follow Photoshop Elements guide to help you get started and use Photoshop Elements effectively.
It’s a short guide to Photoshop Elements. We’ll be splitting it into the most common tasks that you need to carry out. In each section, we’ll cover the features you’ll want to know about for that specific task.
Installing Photoshop Elements
Adobe Photoshop Elements is available to download and use as an app, but if you’re going to use it a lot, we recommend the Windows version. It has a much better user interface and makes everything much easier to do.
Make sure you have Adobe Acrobat Reader or Adobe Reader installed. This can be downloaded from the Adobe website for free.
Getting started
Download the Windows version of Photoshop Elements from Adobe.
Register your product to keep your files and settings automatically backed up to the cloud. (The registration process will be a little more time-consuming if you bought your version of Elements through Creative Cloud).
To get started with Photoshop Elements, click on the icon in the bottom left of the screen (the image below):
You should be taken to the desktop. Create a new folder to store your files in. We’ll be naming ours “Photoshop Elements” as that’s what it’s called on Windows.
Now you’re ready to start. The first time you open Photoshop Elements you’ll be given a welcome screen that explains the software and shows you how to use it.
Select the dark background so it becomes a toolbar at the top of your screen (below). At the top of that toolbar, click on the “NEW” button.
In the ‘”New Image” window (below), you can choose the shape that you want to create a new image out of. For the purposes of this article, we’re going to make an A4-sized photograph with the light-coloured background removed (the rest of the screen will be black).
Click on the “Select” button and then drag your selection tool around to the shape you want to select. In this example, we’ll make a square (red) out of a rectangle (green). When you click and

A German pilot was forced to make an emergency landing in France with a broken engine on the fourth flight in less than two months.
The plane’s engine broke as it was descending after taking off from Le Bourget airport in Paris and the pilot, identified as a woman only as “Captain N.” landed safely.

News that the pilot was forced to make an emergency landing caught the attention of Le Bourget pilot Thomas Sonde, who told local newspaper L’Équipe: “She was extremely nervous, she was shaking. She asked me to land at the first non-public airport that we passed. It didn’t take much longer than we usually do for me to land.”
So far no one has revealed the cause of the engine failure but AFSA.org, which monitors air traffic conditions, has reported that another Boeing plane took off just a few hours before the engine failure took place.
The incident comes less than two months after a Jetstar pilot was forced to make an emergency landing at the same airport for a similar issue.

1. Brushing — Select the brush tool from the Tools panel.
2. Layers — Select Brush tool | Edit brush presets or click the Brush Presets button (Figure 6-9) to open the Brush Presets dialog box.
3. Brush Dynamics — Tap the Brush Dynamics button (Figure 6-10, left) to open the Brush panel (Figure 6-10, right).

4. Brushing — Brush Dynamics panel | Drawing Tool | Fill or Stroke | Brush Tip Shape | Points | Scaled. Drag the slider to set the style of the brush tip (Figure 6-11).
You can change the color of a brush tip by holding down the Shift key while you drag. You can also use the keyboard shortcuts Option+Alt+Shift+Numpad 0 to 0 to cycle through colors.

5. Brush Tip Shape — Bristle Slider | Solid Color | Color | Black. Set the brush tip color. To change the color of a brush tip, use the Bristle Slider (Figure 6-11).

Photoshop also includes the Eraser tool. If you don’t want to use the eraser to erase an image, the Eraser tool has a Replace feature that allows you to quickly fill the image with any color you want.
6. Eraser — Select the Eraser tool from the Tools panel.
7. Eraser — Preferences | Eraser | On, Off, and a Constrain Pixels option that controls how much of the background is covered by the eraser.

You can use the Eraser tool to quickly erase an image by deleting pixels. Figure 6-13 shows some of the settings available.
8. Erasing — Eraser tool | Subtractive | Off or All. Change the type of eraser you use in the Eraser options (Figure 6-13).

In order to play, you will need a USB thumb drive (4GB or higher) of the ISO of the game to install the client on your local machine, as well as one of the required game server packs to play in Co-Op/Co-Create.
The client is not designed to run in Windows Media Center or other Remote Desktop platforms such as Windows 7 Remote Desktop Connection.
