If you have Lightroom 4.2.x, there is no reason not to upgrade to Lightroom 5. It does not require a license to download or register. The upgrade from version 4.2 is free and will be available for download on January 30. As we have seen in this review, Lightroom 5 is now a complete Photoshop CC alternative that no less than Nik Software, a company known for creating specialized RAW converters, feels confident is worthy of being compared to Adobe’s bottom-of-the-barrel products.

Although Lightroom 5 is already free, with 2 GB of storage space, it might be good to check back to see what you’re losing by not upgrading your original Lightroom 4.x version. Of course, you can always keep your Lightroom 4 configuration – but be careful not to lose your data files. So, I could have listed quite a few other tasks that used to be easy in earlier versions of the program, but perhaps I should stop. In any case, let me sum up this review with a statement that I made on the very opening of Lightroom itself “You do Not Have to Be a Dev To Upgrade!” I am looking forward to what is next.
