This means that every one who has your hashcode can use your friendlist to invite new friends as well as to converse with every friend in the shared-list.
Apart from the hashcode you can also choose the password for your shared-friendlist. So noone has access to the list without the password.
When you chat with your friends, RetroMessenger sends all messages over PGP-encrypted (secure) protocols, so noone is listening in on your conversation. Only with RetroMessenger the messages are decrypted with your key, and so you can read them.

RetroMessenger

In RetroMessenger you’ll be able to add your friends and send them messages in real time. Unlike traditional instant messengers, RetroMessenger is fully self-sufficient and does not need a server to operate.
RetroMessenger’s architecture allows it to maintain a list of friends and a list of the friends of the friends. This makes it possible to create both up-to-date friendlists and current friendlists (the latter depend on the former, of course) without the need for a central server to store lists.
Friendlists are your windows, your files and your documents: you can write messages to specific friends to be able to remember those who you want to talk with most. If you want to have a list of friends you know of who are interested in retro gaming on the other hand, you can either just add them all to the same friendlist, or simply keep a list of friends you want to add.
