Rori, this blog and solutions has been very helpful in my math journey. The presentation is so clear and concise I think you could continue these endeavors for more books and ask for donations- but alas you probably have higher aspirations than this. I am almost done with Calc. 1 after more than 3 years- without answers I cant imagine how much extra time it would take. I assumed that Apostol, Spivak and Courant covered the same material, and although they play well off each other, the combined span of the 3 is much greater than any one. Hopefully can read most of the books in your list, although a rough estimate of the time frame would be 20 years. Oh well, its the journey that counts. Thanks again!

Does anyone have any updates on Roris current plans I really loved his solutions to Vol. 1 of Calculus from Tom Apostol. Is he planning to finish the final few questions in this volume and move on to Vol. 2 If so, when

Suppose that someone wanted to work through Apostol, but doesnt have time to complete every exercise exhaustively. Would you be able to comment on good heuristics for choosing a subset of the problems to solve while still getting 80-90% of the understanding Id like to work through vol 1 and 2.

Can you post the problems from Apostols textbook that you have done? I can do Calc 1 & 2 (I think) but in my experience it can take a really long time to finish stuff. I do a lot of math on my own, so I love solving problems but I seem to have to struggle to find the time to do it. Thanks

I have been working on m & m and so far have gotten about 2/3rd done. As you can see, I have started to cover this in part because, like you, I have to be careful not to do this job another 20 years. I dont understand math that well to be honest and so I go through the motions and figure I will learn something. I intend to do more of this book and more of the problems in Apostol. I think you could do a lot of excellent use out of my problems. I havent looked at as many books as you have, but I have been listening to videos on YouTube by some high school math prodigies. They have been doing stuff I could never do in my life. I look at it as a question of closing my eyes and doing something very difficult, then opening my eyes (from a comfy chair) to see what happens. I think thats what I am after. If I can just get the bug, I will figure some way out of my comfortable chair and into a more challenging situation. Thanks for all the comments about my posts. You guys are awesome!

I cant tell you how much I love Apostol, so I hope you do read his books. I recently did Taos and I have to say it was a GREAT move. I cant imagine doing a single proof check these days with that stuff covered. They are a very good check on each other in my experience.
I also think there is value in doing a calculus review as a final polish. Even though a lot of the concepts have pretty straightforward “givens”, it is still nice to go over them again and again. I am a fairly mechanical thinker and so it is also a good confidence booster to have done it all. It is easy to figure out if you have understood a concept in calculus before or not, especially if you were able to do the exercises from the first volume of Apostol’s Calc. 1.
3)I have two options. I can either skip Apostol’s Calc. 1 and go straight to the calculus books of Hoffman and Kunz, or I can read Apostol’s Calc. 1, which would then make the calculus books a second or third choice.
You can see I started on the problems in Apostol, and have already worked up to the proofs of these. I should also mention that I started working on Spivak around the same time and actually read all of it on my first try (without looking ahead).
At this point I should be able to at least get to Apostol, but I may be lucky and get a few from Courant too. Then I will probably work through Hoffman & Kunz again. It will take me a few months after that to get to Rudin.
I worked thru Apostol without looking ahead to get around 80% of the way through it. I have a general idea how the remaining steps will go. So the work on Rudin is just one problem. I think that might take me 4 or 5 months. If I have the whole thing in a single week I should be able to spend at least 3 or 4 hours a day on it.
