C#: Thread Pool Question

I’m looking at my code and came to something that I don’t really like.

Why when creating a thread for the items that need to be loaded do I make the thread have 0 stack size?

I have a program that runs for about an hour, and creates a “Login Screen” object that is stored in session, so if it’s there then it loads it. As this is happening the program is pinging other servers.
It’s been pointed out to me by a coworker that this is bad form. I’ve read about a problem where threads start up and don’t end, but isn’t a thread pool thread stopping after it’s ran?

My Solution:

If I’m not loading the Login Screen then I simply bring up a “Login screen” or something and then load it in the background.

Is there a better method than what I’m currently using?

Threads in.NET have a stack size of 1. If you do not specify a stack size when you create a new thread, then the defaults are used. The default is 1. Therefore, you are telling the.NET Framework to use 1 as its default stack size, which it will do. This would be a very bad idea, because if you need a larger stack, you will effectively be limited to a 1MB stack size.
That being said, you should be aware that C# is a stack-based language and not a heap-based language. However, certain performance-sensitive operations such as deep recursion or large-stack array allocation may cause stack overflow. By setting the stack size to 0, you can avoid these situations, but be aware that this is not a good idea. You will be unable to handle many types of exceptions, and you may find it difficult to debug problems that occur if the threads do not come back up.
