the 3rd brotherhood chapters provide the grey knights grey knightslitanies. these are nothing to do with epic finds, just a useful litany that allows you to re-roll a failed wound roll. in the next chapter we will look at some of the stratagems these chapters bring to the table.

the golden lion guard the next chapter introduce us to the grey knights ravager on the battlefield. these are powerful stormtalon weapons that come in both assault or heavy versions. while the heavy are a little more expensive the assault version can come very cheaply compared to a stormtalon rocket or scythed weapon. the ravager can also be equipped with 5 different types of psyker power each with their own targets. this provides you with a huge variety of target choice for whatever role you want for the ravager in your army. a tier 1 power with heavy on single target, a tier 2 power with medium on a single target and a tier 3 power with zone targeting. i think each of these options are really interesting and will see your opponent think twice before engaging such a stormy foe.

the next chapter introduces the grey knights litany of hate. this is that special trick that only the grey knights can do – turn all their wounds into dead models. with this they can turn every single hit from the enemy into a mortal wound and with the addition of rally of the lost and the new litany of hate they can bring a battle to a head with a lot of killing going on.

the next chapter we get our first turn of re-rolling our own warp-strike attempts. these are nothing to do with our space marine elite units, just a handy litany to give a psyker 1 of or when they deploy. this is just a first swing at a first turn power.

so we are coming out from the summer of harvest to head to the winter of wraiths with the new grey knights codex. its great to see some of the re-shuffling of the forces and traitors to the imperial cause. in particular we see a darkspear and two warzones supporting the grey knights. the first being the invictus sector, where we see a couple of crisis suits and a classic crisis suits warp-in experience. the 2nd is the forsaken world, where we see a warp-in of a dire avenger, storm talon, a suits of orboros and a space marine crusader. this is great stuff!
the new stratagem allows a grey knight player to use the normal movement option and also the melee option (forcing the attack to start at the edge of engagement). this allows grey knights to get up close and personal when really needed. this is all part of the go for the hand of the emperor stratagem.
the new ap1 psychic power is really great and allows you to get around a couple of problems that the imperial guard and chaos soup tactics have. grey knights players must ensure that the 3 lictors they ride are accounted for as you are not allowed to take more than 2 in a game. you have to pay the special â£1 lictor traits and pay for at least 4 lictors in a game if you want to ride more than 2 of them. the warlord trait allows you to add 2 to the number of storm shields your grey knights units have.
about the grey knights themselves, if you bought the old codex theyre almost identical to the new codex with the sole exception of the litanies that are available to them. whilst the old codexes somewhat hindered me in a friendly game as the majority of the powers were contacts or litanies and the necessary cs/ws werent hugely available, these new codexes are much more relaxed. as the old codexes basically forced you to play through a number of expansions a couple of times just to have the majority of the powers available, youll now be able to pick up grey knights from the 40k universe and still be able to play any game.
