In this article, I will simply talk to you about all the new features that are included in Lightroom 5. After doing so I will expand on what should have been better – so you can make your own decision whether to upgrade. I will also talk about some of the products that may be needed to edit properly your photos, and what they each bring to the table.

Lightroom is the new photo editor that came as a part of the recent Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) subscription scheme. Like every previous attempt that has ever been made before, Lightroom is not the beginning of a revolution in the photo editing industry; rather, it is a product that seems to be attempting to accomplish many of the goals of the current big desktops in a small package. Lightroom will do everything that Photoshop can do – but it will do it better, faster, and for less money because it does not include the price of Photoshop (or any other desktop-based program) along with it.

I will look at the tools available to you in Lightroom 5 and explain what their functions are and how they can be used to work a virtually limitless amount of image adjustments, particularly for the raw files. Many of these tools are available to you in Lightroom 4, but some users may have not been aware of their existence; hence, I will expand on the tools in this series.

Glowing Effects is a feature that was introduced in the CS3 Beta earlier this year. But we’d like to expand it. In CS5, use the Glow tool to add a glowing or color-changing effect to a selection or active layer. Glowing effects are easy to use, and you can create lots of them quickly, using the existing readily available selections, layers and paths to create all kinds of effects.
