Introduction

AutoPopup is an open source native android popup window library. It has been written using the Java language and supports multiple screen sizes. It is designed to be both cross-platform (says Windows and Linux are supported), works with Windows and Mac desktops and covers a wide range of screen resolutions and screen densities.

This extension implements the adapter pattern to provide a clickable link in a ContextWindow (ContextApp class). The link isn’t implemented in the ContextWindow class but in an AbstractPopupAdapter class that extends from ContextWindow and implements the ClassClickableAdapter interface.

The ContextWindow class actually holds the real ContextWindow itself (extends from ContextWindow). The actual popup window is a WeakReference to an object that extends from ContextWindow. The ContextWindow object that holds the real popup window is created in AndroidManifest.xml, where the android:linkUrl and android:text fields are set to the screen coordinate (in pixel space) of the URL to be opened. That means the developer doesn’t need to set these two fields in the Manifest (previously done in the initial XML that created the ContextWindow object).

Note:
When the ContextWindow is created, the ContextWindow.setClickListener() method is called. This method could be overwritten by a subclass of ContextWindow if a click listener is already set. One can set the linkUrl and/or text in the constructor of the subclass.

In the AbstractPopupAdapter class, setWindowTitle() is called with a new string that can be edited. This string is used as the text of the “close” button for the popup. The setTitle() method is also used to bind the popup window to a ContextWindow.

Connectivity:

A ContextWindow is created when a phone’s connectivity changes. For example, when the phone is plugged in or disconnected from the computer. This means that the linkUrl and text values in the Manifest are probably the wrong ones. There’s no way to know this without actually testing.

If the linkUrl in the Manifest is incorrect, an exception will be thrown.

A tab at a time:

When a ContextWindow is created, this tab is the first tab (default tab) that is associated with the ContextWindow. This means that the first tab is the real tab, but tabs are created later. For example:
