his charisma and optimism win him over all the characters in the movie except for the guards. even his fellow inmates are sympathetic to him. the film starts out with a tragic event that changes all that. yong-gu accidentally kills a child. although he denies it, the authorities turn him over to the police for a trial. luckily, he is saved by a prisoner who escaped from a different prison a few years ago. the prison story is now a comedy, with a big twist. yong-gu has an accomplice in prison who is a wily con named yang-ho and these two become fast friends. they plan to smuggle yong-gu a daughter who will be visiting him in prison. (i guess they cant legally adopt in korea.) the daughter is the best thing about the movie. her character is very touching. the story is basically about yong-gu and his daughter. and although the film is almost more about the prison lives than about yong-gu, it is worth watching simply for the two of them. i think the best thing about this film is that it is very realistic. the characters are very human, with their faults and weaknesses. i like this.

as for the plot, its fairly generic stuff, and the film doesnt really do much with it. its a standard prisoner film in which a man goes to prison for a crime he did not commit, and the system attempts to destroy him. the story is not too original, but it has a lot of heart. the movie is well-directed and entertaining. it is a joy to watch, especially with the cast. it is not a great movie, but it is good. i would rate it 3.5/5.

as the movie was released overseas, i know some people have complained about its lack of originality, particularly with its plot. but for those who like a normal, mainstream, somewhat mainstream prison film, this is a good one.

3. the end of the last airbender. in a stunning turn of events, the film, starring nicolas cage, crispin glover, and mako, has found a new home on the very same channel that birthed it. the m. night shyamalan film has found its way to the cartoon network channel, which will air the movie in its entirety on friday nights for the next year. the tv premiere will kick off with a 4-hour marathon, followed by a new episode every week from june 28th to august 31st. we can only hope that the emotional ending will not be spoiled by the network.
however, we were pleased when we saw the new trailer. it finally did justice to the movie, and we even saw tom cruise actually look human. and keira knightly is always a delight, so we’re glad that was the end of her oddness.
5. the end of the incredibles. after a long, winding and ultimately unsatisfying arc, the incredibles finally comes to a close. but perhaps its best to leave it at that. for we can’t imagine that any movie ever surpasses the unmatched power of pixar.
shutter island is the final chapter of the story of dr. presley “pres” owens, played by leonardo dicaprio. and while we’ve seen plenty of movies that end in a fashion of “i’m ready for a showdown”, what makes shutter island so compelling is that pres is not a man who is ready for a showdown.
the story of this film, “miracle in cell no. 7,” starts in a place we all know so well: a dark room in a prison. the scene is set with a large empty prison cell. the lights are out, and the camera zooms in from a distance. the camera zooms in and we see a single man sitting in the cell. we hear a child’s voice and then a teenage girl enters the scene. the man looks like a mid-40’s man. he’s thin, with a wrinkled face. he looks tired. he’s been there for a long time. the girl is younger, maybe a teenager. she enters the cell holding a yellow leaf. she drops it on the floor and she walks out. the man watches the scene and holds the leaf in his hand. the next scene is the same cell, but there are two men sitting in it. they are half of a cell, as if sharing. the man walks into the room, and he sees the two men. one of the men is sleeping. the man looks at the sleeping man and then says something. the other man looks down at the leaf in the first man’s hand. the two men appear to be arguing. the first man throws the leaf away and it lands on the floor. the girl is back in the cell. the girl picks up the leaf. the man watches the girl and then the girl walks out of the room. the next scene is the same, but now there is a large group of men in the room. the men are seated on the floor. they are crowded around the cell. they look like they are listening to something. a man enters the scene and looks at the room. the man is dressed in prison clothing. his clothes are dirty and ragged. he goes into the cell. he looks at the men and then he goes to the desk. he picks up a piece of paper and starts to write. the scene changes to a guard, who enters the cell. he pushes the man to the wall. the man grabs the guard and he tries to hit the guard. the guard is able to push the man to the floor. a group of guards enter the room. they try to pull the man to his feet. the man fights the guards. he is strong. the man hits the guards. the guards try to pull the man to the door. the men try to pull the man out of the room. the guards hold the man. the guards take the man to the door. the guards try to pull the man through the door. the man struggles with the guards. the man is very strong. the man is trying to fight the guards. they try to pull the man through the door. the men try to pull the man through the door. the guards hold the man and pull the man through the door. the scene changes back to the same cell. the men are in the same room. there is a large group of men in the room. the men are all sitting on the floor. the men are crowded around the cell. the men are looking at the guards. the guards walk into the room and then they walk out of the room. the men in the room look at the man. the men in the room look at the leaf on the floor. they seem interested in the leaf.
