revan had proven that he was capable of mastering the dark side, and malak was a powerful opponent, but revan believed he could defeat both the sith emperor and malak. for the emperor, he knew that if he could be killed, his power would be ended. malak, however, had already proven that he was a worthy adversary, and revan knew that he could best him in combat. knowing that he needed to become one with the dark side in order to best malak, he sought to create a conflict within himself that would cause his body and mind to experience pain and suffering and convince him that he deserved death. the sith emperor, however, was not swayed by revan’s cruelty and determination, and he proceeded to use his telekinetic powers to move the jedi master off of the emperor’s throne, away from the emperor, and toward a spot where the emperor would not be able to reach him. the sith emperor then unleashed a blast of energy that knocked revan out of the palace, but the jedi master was able to catch himself as the emperor continued to send bolts of force lightning at him, and he eventually broke free of the emperor’s grasp and fled into the city streets. after breaking free of the emperor, revan headed for one of the emperor’s palace towers, but a republic patrol ship flew by and disabled his lightsaber, and the jedi was forced to flee again. fortunately, revan was saved by the republic’s rescue fleet, which transported him to the republic capital of coruscant. despite the danger the emperor posed, he felt responsible for the suffering he had caused, and he was determined to atone for his crimes. he left coruscant to seek peace and the jedi council’s approval for his plan to destroy the emperor, but he was captured and imprisoned on the sith homeworld of malachor. malak followed him to malachor, and he was eventually released after the two agreed to duel each other to the death. revan then left malachor to find the emperor, but the sith lord remained sealed in his throne. the duel lasted for years, and during that time, revan became the dominant force in the galaxy. the emperor, however, was still deadly, and revan was forced to lie dormant for centuries as he kept the sith emperor imprisoned on malachor. while he was hibernating, the emperor found the way to malachor’s power core, and he began to awake revan once again, and the emperor went on to destroy the other sith masters who had been created by revan, the emperor’s former students, and he became the only living sith master.
