I like that the Smart Preview feature in Lr 5.2 is better than before. It looks like a lot of work was put into the lens adjustment, but it is not simple work. Making lens adjustments means more work for Lightroom to do, till I can save the edits. The Smart Preview now appears to be a straight one camera image type of evaluation of potential flaws. This is an improvement and well done.
The new Lr5 is gorgeous! I like the new enhancements to the editing panel. I do agree that to get things done in an Image editor has to be frustrating. I don’t think designing a new UI will resolve the problem, you have to think about other issues. The new UI is not intuitive, and is also difficult to use for people who are new to Photoshop.
I’m in the process of upgrading to Lightroom 5.2. This means upgrading to Lightroom on top of Elements and moving off of Adobe Collection for the workflow. My workflow currently is very similar to previous Lightroom 5.1. That said, I am impressed with the new cloud workflow features. Also, I am impressed with the performance.
For years, professionals trying to make much more than doodling in Photoshop have searched for alternatives. SolidWorks is a contender, but the price is a lot larger, and performance is an order or magnitude slower since it’s a CAM engine. The price may fall as the number of options rises, but Photoshop is easier to learn and more flexible. To be fair, Sketch is an improvement from Pencil in terms of performance and clarity, but most feature work in Photoshop, so Pencil remains a workable alternative.
After making the selection, you can easily paint over the area and adjust the shape settings. There are two other tools in this arsenal: The Direct Selection tool will help in editing the new shape. The Shape layer group tool will be used instead of traditional marquee selection. One of the most exciting features in Adobe Photoshop is the new layer blending function. While the traditional layers are easier to use, this new function makes them very versatile.
