**Publishing a book about Photoshop:** As I was toying with the idea of writing a book about Photoshop, I realized how much there was to cover. I also realized that while my writing style is very visual, many others are better with text. After weighing in the pros and cons, I decided to write a book covering both. This book tells you how to use Photoshop CS3 like a professional but is also filled with visual examples and illustrations that can help you make decisions while editing images.

Q:
Can object detection be done for activities, actions and intentions in our app?
In an app I’m working on, I want to build activity recognition based on user activities and intent prediction based on recent user interactions (both can be just watched for a few seconds and be stored and kept for a few minutes).
I know Google Now can help here, but I don’t have a good idea how they do it. I’ve seen an activity recognition by PiXL, but it’s about sequences of actions and not what user is currently doing.
I’m wondering if I can build an app similar to Google Now, but I want to detect the activity of the user and the context based on past interactions and actions (and maybe even by intentions).
Is it possible to do so using the already available APIs, or do I need to build it from scratch, because I haven’t found anything similar yet.
I would appreciate any help or guidance on how to get started.

In essence, in the system that you want to build and the one that Google has, there is a similarity. They both use the concept of Markov Models. Google Now and other such systems first go through every spoken utterance/action by the user in history. With the help of that, they train a model so that they can predict a particular activity and a context.
To implement this, you first need a data. You can pick any data that may give you some information to train the model, be it the phone activity log of the user or the search queries/reading habits of the user or even the app usage history. Just make sure that your data is in text format.
Once you have the data, there is a list of training models in public domain like Stanford NNPReduction. There are some training models for Android also (I remember things like the Nordic Mobile Security Bounty app, which also collected activities) and they can be used as a starting point.
You can use any of the available models (though you don’t need a linear model as they are simple, you can use for example a Multi-Layer Perceptron, aka MLP) and train it. Once you have the trained model, make it downloadable (it is the only thing that needs to be hidden). After this, you can start predicting.
To get the context, you can have an interaction log to train an activity detection model. And in case of predictions

The Paint Bucket is used to select an area or to move a selection around. By default, it can only be used to select areas of an image, but it can be used to paint color or black and white as well. (It can also be used to add text, if you have a text tool selected.)
The Brush tool can be used to paint the image with a particular color or to add a texture, smudge, or clone the brush over an existing area of the image. The Eraser tool can be used to remove parts of the image or to fill in empty spaces. The Clone tool can be used to create a perfect duplicate of the brush or pen. The Spot tool can be used to create a single dot on the canvas.
The Pencil tool allows you to draw on the canvas or create shapes of multiple layers by drawing a circle, rectangle, freeform polygon, and line-less vector path.
The Eraser tool is used to remove an area of the canvas that is covered with color. There are various modes of erasing, including color and layer modes.
The Zoom tool makes the canvas move around. You can also draw the canvas first, use the Zoom tool to make it smaller or bigger, and then click it again to put it back to its original position. You can use the scroll wheel on your mouse or the Command-Plus and Command-Minus buttons to zoom in and out of your canvas. If you drag with the scroll wheel, you can select more than one area.
Photoshop has many special tools for image editing that are unique to the program. You can use some of these tools to resize an image, add curves, select parts of an image, add drop shadow, adjust image brightness, and adjust color and filter the image.
You can use the Levels tool to adjust the brightness and contrast of the image. The Lasso tool is used to select an area of the image.
