Tic Tac Toe Game
TicTacToe is a game for two players on two
spaces. In each turn, the player who draws the
cross wins the game, and the game ends
when the player who won the last move loses.
The game is played on a 3×3 board. The
“squares” in the game should be understood in
more abstract sense as spaces in a larger
space.
The best move in each turn is determined by a
game-theoretic variant of the usual TicTacToe
rules, where players make alternating “swings”.
Player one makes their move. Player two
answers “In. Out” (either “yes” or “no”) as to whether
the 1st move had any effect. If player two says
yes, player one then makes their move. The
player making a move in each turn is called
the “odd” player. If the game is to end, the
“odd” player wins.
Note that player one is always making their
move; player two never has a turn in the game.
Thus the game may be thought of as a kind of
race, in which player one and player two
alternate running, the race winner being the
player who finally crosses the finishing line.
The game can be played between two human
players using a pen and paper. However, there
is a computer program called Hanoi that plays a
good imitation of tic-tac-toe. Hanoi was one
of the first programs ever written.
