Virtual Assistants
Support for virtual assistants was added in AutoCAD 2007. Many organizations used this feature to allow users to operate CAD software via a custom GUI or interface on a company computer. Virtual Assistants in AutoCAD were based on a system developed by the CAD field expert company Artisans Systems Inc., and were installed on a company computer which was dedicated to CAD operations.
CADML
The CADML specification was developed by the Association of Electronic Design Automation (AEDA), and introduced as a software framework in 1999. By using CADML to write their own commands, a designer or technician can extend AutoCAD to make the commands perform specific functions that are not already included in AutoCAD. When a command is started, AutoCAD runs CADML. It is similar in principle to the way that programming languages such as C and Java are used to write code. Most of the CADML commands are self-contained as a single file. However, a few files are required to run a CADML command. These include the application programs that run the command, the graphics driver, and the drawing files (usually DXF or DWG) containing the geometric shapes that the command operates on. The data files (XML or binary) that store information related to the command are usually distributed with the command files. CADML commands can be used to operate features that are not included in AutoCAD, such as the de-flagging of AutoCAD layers, layer ordering in the drawing area, and the configuration of layers. The name CADML is a cross between CADD and DML. CADML code is written in the same programming language as AutoCAD commands. The syntax of a CADML command differs slightly from that of an AutoCAD command. For example, an arc command would be written as:

CADML commands operate on the same models as AutoCAD commands, and usually do the same thing. However, CADML commands are not necessarily written by AutoCAD programmers. The syntax, purpose, and intended users of CADML commands differ from those of AutoCAD commands. The CADML command information is stored in the same XML files as AutoCAD commands, and can be included with commands that are written in AutoCAD programming languages.

The trace tool, now known as the selection tool, is one of the most commonly used tools in AutoCAD. The tool now has 3D and 2D selection modes. It can now select multiple objects in a single pass, to cut down on time and minimize the chance for error. It can now switch between 2D and 3D. You can even pick a grid point and place it in your drawing. You can also move your selection while performing actions like snap, join, split and more.
Crop:
The crop tool is a nice tool to use in several situations, especially when you have hundreds of images or drawings to review in the images. The crop tool has improved functionality and speed.
Workplane:
The workplane tool has been improved to make it easier to use. It is now easier to create more precise workplanes. You can add, subtract or clear it to change your workplane.
