AutoCAD is a proprietary, graphically rich, computer-aided design and drafting software application developed by Autodesk, a San Francisco-based company, and the latest version is AutoCAD 2020, released in November 2019.
Autodesk’s AutoCAD software is widely used in the engineering, design, and construction industries, allowing engineers to quickly produce and view their designs, which are stored as.DWG or.DGN files. The application also allows users to create drawings, charts, illustrations, and models that contain text, shapes, and lines.
There are two main categories of users of AutoCAD:
End-users: These are the operators of AutoCAD; the people who design and create AutoCAD drawings. This group of users will be familiar with the basic functions of AutoCAD.
Engines: These are software programs designed to run AutoCAD, and are primarily used by companies to design their own AutoCAD software, and perform custom functions. Most companies that use AutoCAD are based in the engineering and architecture, construction, transportation, chemical, and infrastructure industries.

When we first introduce the various types of users we need to think of what their purpose is.
End-user: The operator of AutoCAD
The AutoCAD end-user, or designer, is the person who designs the AutoCAD drawings. They might be a draftsman or an architect, but they are most often the person who would be responsible for the development of the CAD drawings. They might also be a CAD manager, or a project manager. They will be familiar with the basic functions
Architecture
As a technical drawing, architecture has an over-arching use of visual representation. In architecture, the ability to quickly create, modify, and test architectural designs becomes critical.
Structure
The structure of a CAD project can be decomposed into several structural parts:
Model
The model is a matrix of n points. Points are the way objects are represented in 2D drafting software. These points are stored in a list (or vector). At the lowest level, a model is a collection of lines, arcs and text features. A model may also be a collection of blocks, which represent an enclosure. In reality a model has many levels of detail, from a point feature (e.g., a point cloud), to blocks, lines, arcs, text and a full design model. A model may also be “frozen” (i.e., a design has been constructed and the user will not be able to modify the model, or “unfreeze” it again until it is re-rendered). A model may be “View” (i.e., the view of the object or location) or “Reference” (i.e., the object or location).

Orientation
In a particular construction, two parallel lines are placed to a workpiece. These lines define the plane on which the construction is made. Any point on one line is perpendicular to the other line.
