AutoCAD became one of the first Windows software products to provide interface consistency between the Windows menu bar and application toolbar.

AutoCAD v3 was released in 1990. It added support for bitmap images and added the ability to change object colors. AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT were made available as PDF files. The Macintosh was the first platform with the ability to “release” AutoCAD designs in PDF format, something that had previously only been possible in the DOS version of AutoCAD. AutoCAD 2000, released in 1996, added support for the latest version of AutoLISP, the LISP language that AutoCAD uses for user programming. AutoCAD 2000 also featured “macro assistants” that allowed the user to create pre-programmed commands and functions.

AutoCAD 2000 SP1 was released in 1998, adding three-dimensional (3D) drawings. A special version was released for AutoCAD 2000 that shipped with Microsoft’s Windows Millennium Edition.

The Windows version of AutoCAD is available on the Windows 7 platform (using a windowed UI) and the Windows 8 platform (using a modern UI).
