They went through the motions of surrender to General Eisenhower, but when he tried to take charge, they ignored him, set up a new government, and began rounding up all the Jews.

Hitler had intended to march into London with an army of a million men.

The army surrendered at about the same time as the SS, a few weeks later, and was disbanded.

I think that sums it up.

After the surrender, the allied troops brought the German people bread and let them speak their mind.
