As you can see, I’m trying to use the @ sign, which won’t work because it thinks that’s part of some code.
I’ve tried to escape the @ with the following methods:

2 backslashes (as specified in XTerm by Shift+Ctrl+C)
using the quote sign (`)
using \

I’ve also used single quotes ‘

The only method that works is using ASCII characters by themselves. \X works, because it thinks it’s part of an escape sequence, but \a doesn’t.

The only way I could get it to work is by escaping it with a backslash \.

It was a bit of a pain to set up. I had to make sure the shell I’m in is XTERM, as \a is encoded by XTERM but not the default TERM. And then I had to figure out how to get XTERM to pass the \ to the terminal. I added the following to my bashrc:
read -s -p ‘Enter your password’ -e ‘\c’

That tells XTERM to put the cursor at the beginning of the line. The rest of my bashrc was just a bunch of #s to track down some weird things I was doing.

i have found the path for the bios7 bin /lib/firmware/BCM2708A.bin and the bios9 bin /lib/firmware/BCM2709B.bin, what is the path for the bios9 bin? how do i find that? thanks

I saw this article by Tim Worstall and it made a few things come to mind. To start with, it was the first time I’ve read the word ‘millennial’ in a sentence. It has a certain ring to it and a certain sort of naivety in the belief that we really do know what we want in life. A cynical view of our generation would probably suggest it’s nothing more than a bunch of entitled, anti-establishment, anti-everything, white kids trying to muscle their way to the top.

I don’t think that’s it at all. I think the millennials are people who’s sense of entitlement started to falter when they hit their 30s or early 40s; the weight of life and responsibility hits home. It’s harder to blame our parents for our failures and struggles when your own life has been turned upside down, turned inside out. It’s easier to blame the system we were born into, easier to complain about the government, than to do something positive.

We’ve been making excuses for our attitude for a long time. We want the best for our kids and we want our future to be as bright as that of our parents. We’ve been told we want happiness and that we want to stay in education. You see these common stereotypes portrayed on TV, in the media and in the streets of our towns and cities. All of these people have spent their entire lives proving the stereotypes to be true. They’ve been told that working hard is the only way to achieve. They’ve been told that the only way to be happy is to achieve more, to be better than the person in the next car, better than my friend, better than my family.

Of course, none of this is true.
