Roblox is an online game platform and game creation system developed by Roblox Corporation that allows users to program games and play games created by other users. Created by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel in 2004 and released in 2006, the platform hosts user-created games of multiple genres coded in the programming language Lua. For most of Roblox’s history, it was relatively small, both as a platform and a company. Roblox began to grow rapidly in the second half of the 2010s, and this growth has been accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Roblox Corporation was founded by Roblox creator Erik Cassel, RedOctane founder David Baszucki, and Palmer Luckey. After the formation of Roblox, the company spent three years developing what became the core of their platform: the game engine used to create and play games. Originally, Roblox was released to the public on November 18, 2006. At the time, it had around 50 features and was aimed at children around the age of eight.
The first version of Roblox was fairly simple, allowing users to create games and share them with other people. In the early days, the development team led by Cassel worked on the game engine itself and also on the user interface. On some occasions, the two developers worked on the project together. In addition to creating the code for the game engine itself, Cassel and his development team also made use of an API that allowed them to create a third-party client-server game engine for the Roblox.
==Releases==
Roblox Corporation’s first public release of the Roblox SDK was in December 2006. The next release, the Roblox Social Platform, was released in April 2007. The Social Platform included the Roblox API and allowed users to create their own client-server game engine. However, it was still very buggy and suffered from performance issues. On May 24, 2007, Roblox Corporation was acquired by the American company Kinetic Concepts, Inc. In 2008, Kinetic Concepts released the first update to the Roblox Social Platform. At the time, this included a range of improvements. An experimental release followed, and the final update to the Social Platform was released in March 2009. This release included a number of significant changes, including the first public release of the Roblox Technologies Platform.
