when looking at the registry in hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\services\dakapip, we found that the software\microsoft\dss\x86\roaming.agent that described the comprised in rpcnet.exe module with an clsid of {75dcb1f2-6f4f-11d2-8b38-0080c75acd4c} was installed and run. this clsid means that the software is part of a microsoft data access kit (mdac) product. in the context of this computer, it sounds like a device access kit (dak), which is an windows kernel driver that lets you access a network-attached storage (nas) or scsi device from windows.

after deciding that the database was on a nas, we used a registry search to check if a dak was installed. the exactpath key in the registry was set to %systemroot%\system32\drivers\storage.agent which is the name of the storage.agent dak. this key was needed because other daks for hard drives had a different path.

when searching for dakapip in the registry, we found that it was installed and started. looking at the properties of the agent, we saw that the dakapip clsid was the {75dcb1f2-6f4f-11d2-8b38-0080c75acd4c} clsid that we saw earlier. as the name implies, it acts as a client for access to network resources.

in the same search, we looked for an in-memory key hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\services\dakapip. we werent sure whether the dakapip was a driver that reads configuration data from the registry, so we looked for that in a registry search.

as described earlier, two to four security credentials are required for installation. the first credential is the sql server analysis services password to which the small agent is assigned upon installation. this password is used in the following network protocol communication protocol. the second credential is an account name and password to the bi services domain.
you should modify the bi services account name and password to that account provided by the company to which you are installing the small agent. it is recommended that you use microsoft’s company account for convenience. however, if your company account is weak, the small agent can be exploited by an attacker that obtains your computer credentials through an active phishing attack or social engineering. it is best to modify your account name and password to that account provided by the company.
