Console Server is a Command Line application that was designed to help advanced computer users access remote COM ports remotely in the same way they do on their local computers by using other software solutions such as HyperTerminal.
The operation principle used by this application is that it starts a server and enables users to connect to the computer Console Server runs on and work with COM ports remotely once the connection has been established.
The archive this program comes packed in contains a series of documents aside from the server executable. These documents can be configured so that certain data such as serial ports and IP addresses can be pulled directly from them.
Upon connection via telnet to the server, a series of commands are printed on the screen, in order to help users familiarize themselves with its features quicker. SOME FEATURES:
* Allows the user to connect to any COM port remotely.
* User can choose COM ports as well as IP address when connecting remotely.
* User can set the delay between commands as well as editable commands that may be typed in the command line.
* The settings files are able to be saved and loaded to help increase or decrease the length of the time between commands.
* It is highly recommended to have command files saved, since it will help in case an application has not loaded them correctly.
* It is also possible to open multiple ports on the same COM port by choosing the number in the “port_information_file” variable.
* If a user wants to get connected to a specific COM port, he can choose the port when entering the command line.
* Allows the user to update port information from the “port_information_file” file on the server by using the “update” command.
* Allows users to simply connect to a COM port remotely by typing “server_commands” in the command line, the server will then load the COM port information and allow the user to type commands in the COM port.
* It is possible to toggle the ECHO mode on or off by using the “echo” command in the console.
* An “info” command can be used to show all of the port-related information that was loaded into the server from the “port_information_file” file.
* An “open” and “close” command are present in the server, which allow the user to open or close COM ports.
* A “port_information_file” variable is included in the server, which allows the user to read in the settings that were loaded from the server

Basic Functionality
The purpose of the software package can be boiled down to two functions, which are to act as an advanced Telnet/Rlogin server and enable users to interact with remote COM ports locally on a machine without having to install any additional software.
However, the software can only be installed on computers with the Microsoft Windows operating system installed on it.
For more advanced features that could be offered, the developer would need to get external documents such as serial ports and IP addresses and configure them into the program.
Additionally, there are no package installation instructions provided with the program and the program is actually a self-extracting archive, which means that users are expected to extract and install it.
The software was first released in 2003.

In essence, the user can choose a serial port and initiate the console server, which could be useful when a computer is inaccessible.

I was trying to upload a new version to this forum, but I keep getting the error ‘Failed to update server files’
i downloaded the latest version available and tried to upload the new file (client) and it always returned the error.
Please could you update it asap and try again.

EDIT: It may be a good idea to remove the older version. You can’t do this using the ‘Uninstall’ option in the control panel as the old version is a ‘necessary’ part of the program.
