© Provided by TIME A new book is claiming that the Monica Lewinsky scandal is part of a grand conspiracy within the U.S. government to cover up government corruption and conceal crimes by powerful politicians including Hillary Clinton.

A recently-published book titled “Conspiracy Theory The Hole in the Heart of the American Story” claims that the scandal surrounding former White House intern Monica Lewinsky is just one part of a larger, elaborate U.S. government conspiracy. The book, which was authored by author and conspiracy theorist Jack Cashill and published by Regnery Publishing, uses interviews with witnesses to the Clinton sexual scandal, including Lewinsky, as well as background research and documents to further the claims.

The controversial title claims that former U.S. President Bill Clinton committed an “iconic act of depravity” with the help of Hillary Clinton.

The authors say Lewinsky was used by the Clintons as a “plaything” and that Bill Clinton began having affairs with Lewinsky after he met with Lewinsky in a meeting in the Oval Office. Later, when Hillary Clinton became the first lady of the United States, she used Lewinsky to advance her own interests, the authors say.

Bill Clinton acknowledges “inappropriate intimate relations” with Lewinsky in his 1998 memoir, “My Life,” but the authors claim that the former president “created a television show, ‘The Eternal Glory of Bill Clinton,'” which was designed to build a case against Lewinsky, Cashill says.

In her book, “What Happened,” published in November and widely credited with being the primary catalyst behind Donald Trump’s rise as a presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton has claimed Bill Clinton’s “abuse” of her was part of the reason she ran for public office.

Lewinsky, who later went on to have a relationship with Vanity Fair writer Gabriel Sherman, has always denied any wrongdoing and sued the magazine for libel.

The publication of the book comes as Lewinsky was poised to finally publicly accuse Hillary Clinton of “leaking” her name as part of a bribery scheme to try and dig up dirt on her father and other Clinton associates. She gave her first major interview on the subject last week.
