Deadlight is an incredibly tense and atmospheric game that does an excellent job of creating a threatening atmosphere with a spooky setting. The video game’s visuals are simply stunning, especially for a new game from the independent developer – something they have continued to improve on throughout the development of the game. After playing the game, you may quickly conclude that the developer could be a noteworthy name in video games in the near future.

Deadlight only has one facet that doesn’t work, which is that it doesn’t work. Unhappiness with this aspect of the game is a strong factor in many players not putting themselves through the trials of survival. The worst aspect of this is the forced separation between Randall and Michonne. When you are never a walk in the same park as your partner, you end up having a feeling of failure, and once you are separated, the failure is amplified.

Deadlight’s story is pretty shocking. You find yourself, a military contractor, in a zombie infested city. The most obvious example of the game being set in a recession is the fact that sometimes Randall can’t make money, despite being a high-payee contractor. Let’s just say, this is not a high paying day. There is also the discovery of Randall’s estranged wife. So there’s your first two tales of woe as Randall finds himself in a zombie infested city, all alone.

Just like zombies, the quality of an extended playtime can vary wildly from person to person. You might find that the horrific face-ripping visual design gets on your nerves. Others will love it. In my case, I found it so gross that I couldn’t stand for long periods of time. If you have never played the original Deadlight before, I recommend you try it first.
