passwords are obtained by guessing at random. the passwords used in these programs are provided in the password database. the password database is updated with new passwords added to the tutorial examples.

the file path is fixed to the top of the file path namespace, but the file path could also be a path within the local file path namespace or relative path within a network path. the hashmap keys are username, the password itself and the password strength as a number. the map values are username the password itself and the function call returns true if the hash of the password was created successfully.

the password cracker is written in python. the tests are mostly just the basic verification that it works. for example:

directlogicplcpasswordcrack attempts to crack the password of user id 1 to n using the directlogicplc password validator.

directlogicplcpasswordcrack takes as arguments the user name string to crack and the number of possible passwords. directlogicplcpasswordcrack will not crack passwords which begin with 0, require more than 15 characters, or which use all capital letters.

usage: directlogicplcpasswordcrack [-s] [-e] [-f] [-h] [-o] [-v] [plc_host] [password] -s use a serial connection -e use a ethernet connection -f find the password on the plc -h print usage -o use an open connection -v be verbose plc_host plc host to use (default is the hostname) password user to crack the password (default is the hostname) description directlogic plcs are network devices used to perform small to medium scale factory automation. they are typically very easy to access using a web browser. they support the dnp3 (devicenet protocol) protocol, and many of them can be used in real time. directlogic plcs have no built in password protection, so when connecting to a plc you must specify a password to login. the device will then be accessible as if you had logged in. directlogic plcs are network devices and as such the password should be specified as the username of a network service. this command is designed to be used from the command line. if a password has been supplied on the command line, then the command will work directly from a linux shell. if no password has been supplied, then it will require user interaction. options -s, –serial serial connection is used. -e, –ethernet ethernet connection is used.
directlogicplcpasswordcrack is a command line utility to crack password hashes. the tool is fully compatible with the hashcracker version 1.1.1, see hashcracker. directlogicpasswordcrack can be used as a replacement for hashcracker on a linux system.
