As a designer, I love Photoshop. However, compared to iPhoto, Photoshop is less flexible and more difficult for very basic edits too. I like Painter a lot, but I can’t imagine cranking out a lot of design work in it due to the steep learning curve. For other than design work, I recommend iPhoto.

Though Photoshop is not free, the upgrade version is superior in more aspects than the free version. The free version has fewer options, have no support, and limited EDI’s. The upgrade version has new features and support and EDI’s. I rate it as more than just 5.0, since it works a lot better after the update (from v5.3 to 7.0).
If you have any design contracts that require you to work with Photoshop, you should buy a license.

I like it’s new design the small plus button is very helpful and having a’show panel’ button makes it easy to access the preferences. It also has a great crop, rotate & sharpen tool, and the new toolbox is really handy. I really like being able to quickly adjust the brushes and having the various filters available from a central location is fantastic, and I love that you can use filters after you’ve selected a brush. However, I am not really a fan of the ‘enhance’ tools as when you go into one of those areas, the color space in which you are working in will always change… take 2 photos and one looks great in the toolbox but in the actual image it looks way different.. it also has a weird look to it. I don’t like the new eraser tool as when you erase sections of the photo it can sometimes corrupt the top area where you did the selection too… but, at the very least it’s a cleaner environment to work in… For the price I paid for it at work I am very satisfied, but it won’t make me a happy owner of a subscription… 😉

The bottom line is that there is no single best Adobe Photoshop for beginners – it all depends on your individual needs and skill level. However, all of the options mentioned above are great choices for those just starting out with this powerful software.

Recently Adobe has revamped all the inbuilt, useful Photoshop tools such that they use the GPU hardware with the software. In some cases, this makes the work more efficient, in some it makes more efficient. In this version, in some cases the performance increase becomes even better.

The differences between Photoshop and other compositors are what makes it unique. These unique features are both good and bad. The good are the veritable array of creative effects that really inspire when used in specialized areas. The bad are how those features tend to break down as the app becomes more complex and more used.

Although many Photoshop users have mastered the integration of Photoshop’s 3D features to image related tasks such as 3D effects, the integration of Photoshop Procs to a workflow where content is built and recreated in the 3D editor has been met with less than acceptable results. The effort and the use of skills needed to build a relationship between Photoshop and the 3D versions of Adobe’s content tools is just too great to have a native workflow. Adobe is slowly introducing commands that will be made available to 3D users that will allow some of those tasks to be accomplished more directly and efficiently, however as this progresses adobe will have to offer prebuilt packages of plugins for certain types of 3D workflows.

Users who use Photoshop layers, such as clipping paths, masks, drop shadows, and text, can also now move them into Photoshop Elements; a Crop tool simplifies cropping into cropping into Photoshop Elements if you’re not really sure of what you’re doing, as this pop-up dialogue box suggests.

Adobe Photoshop is, quite rightly, an enormously widely used piece of software. It was the first true competitor to the venerable CorelDRAW and, back in the early days, offered a very familiar, easily understood UI. With the loss of main sequence layers, Photoshop now compresses and decompresses image data on the fly. So you have to reload an image to refresh its appearance after zooming in or out.

As with its Elements stablemate, Premiere Elements, Photoshop Elements for macOS matches its Windows 10 counterpart feature-for-feature. The software requires macOS 10.14 or later, but it doesn’t yet support Apple Silicon M1-based Macs. That’s on Adobe’s roadmap for the software, however. Unlike Premiere Elements, Photoshop Elements is available on the Mac App Store, which simplifies installation, updating, and moving the app to another computer.
