The benefits of capturing RAW files are that they are not compressed. They can be more difficult to work with than JPEG files. However, they are also larger than JPEG files by about 10 times. It could be difficult to edit a RAW file if you were to try to see the image in your computer monitor with a resolution of or less than what is possible with a camera. Photoshop CS6 is improving the displaying of RAW files on your monitor. With the new RAW display, you can now work with your RAW files and view them on the desktop monitor, your tablet, or your phone.

 

 

 

 

 

 

At this point, there are no major weaknesses that I’ve noticed, and the new version does a lot to enhance and improve some of the earlier problems I had. Lightroom 5’s video import function is great, and which makes the CC version even more attractive for video editors. Lightroom 5 is a minor update, but it’s definitely a major improvement to the software. It’s been a good year for Adobe, and I hope that things will continue to get better.

I love Lightroom. It is so easy to use, and to experiment. You just take raw photos and it gives you great finished images (though my wife says that the closest to a finished image is my wife, meaning, it’s a double pat on the back to Lightroom lol!). With Lightroom, you can hold down the “F” key for the final adjustments, which I do often, just as I would in any other image processing software – it saves a lot of time.

The gradual transition of Lightroom (without the RAW editing) to Photoshop has left Lightroom and Photoshop looking like different products. Once you learn to edit a photograph in Lightroom, you come to see what benefit there is starting the RAW photograph in Photoshop. Some of lightroom’s features are just not useful in the image editing process. Not having the RAW editing capabilities of Photoshop just seems to slow the switching process too much for my liking.

You’ve probably heard the word “Channel.” It’s one of the most exciting additions to the best software Photoshop has ever had, and the easiest way to describe it is like layers for image editing.
