YumI do not wish to use the Oracle package manager, so I went to using the yum package manager. This is not officially supported by Ubuntu and may break things, so make sure that you have a backup before you do this.

Downlaod the files from the Linux site and make them executable. I believe the following are the commands to install WSL. If you have Ubuntu 15.10 or later, you will need to first remove all of the other files except ‘main’ and ‘core’. You will likely have to restart several times to get it working. I used below command:
chmod +x 14.04.5-desktop-amd64.iso
wget -c http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows?ver=15.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso
download ubuntu 15.04 highly compressed

These gave us the installer file

This is where ‘main’ and ‘core’ are located.
wget http://releases.ubuntu.com/15.04/ubuntu-15.04-core-amd64.manifest
wget http://releases.ubuntu.com/15.04/ubuntu-15.04-main-amd64.manifest’. —
I believe ‘main’ is where the installer file is located and ‘core’ is where all of the other files are located. When I did the above commands, these were the files downloaded ‘main’ and ‘core’ located in my Downloads folder.
