I am trying to make a regular expression that accepts the following:

If you have an ideal polarization filter in which all incident light is either transmitted or absorbed, then the absorption profile would be a rectangle with the vertical line at the top of the rectangle.
Since this filter is not ideal, it will not be a perfect rectangle, and that is where your confusion lies. The horizontal width of the rectangle is the wavelength of the light transmitted by the filter, and the vertical width of the rectangle is the wavelength of the light absorbed by the filter.
