the second edition of electric circuits, published in 1987, was substantially revised. some of the more than 400 problems were rewritten and new problems were added. it featured a new problem-solving approach based on the concept of inventing new ideas. this new approach and format was based on a curriculum that had been developed at the university of massachusetts and in a hands-on laboratory course at the national institute of standards and technology. chapters of each problem were designed to guide students through the entire analysis, from the definition of variables to the final conclusions. many problems were re-worded to make better use of the new problem-solving approach.

in addition to these basic goals, the authors have met the need for a book that can address the specific needs of either student or instructor. example solutions are presented for exercises and are easy to locate in the text and online. a large number of worked problems and examples with complete solutions are presented for each chapter. a series of free online tutorials provide users with a high level of content and a context that gets them started right away. this book and tutorials on the web also provide the opportunity to build a functional knowledge of electronics.

i purchased this book in 1981 for $65. i had been an electrical engineer for a short time and wanted to learn more about circuits. i found this book to be an excellent introduction to the subject. i have read and used it many times. i got my copy from the campus bookstore.
the first edition was published in 1983 and still is in print today. it is a great text for a first-year undergraduate or entry-level graduate course in electrical engineering. this is especially true if you are teaching it.
