So far we’ve only tested Motocross Madness on a fully-functional PC running the Windows 98 version of Windows. But, we have been told by a few users that the game runs fine on an old Windows 95 or Windows NT machine.

In addition, the Windows 98 version of Motocross Madness was designed using Visual Studio 1999 with the dgVoodoo2 D3D API. Perhaps this will make some old point-and-click gamers happy. However, on the other hand, if you happen to be one of these old-school gamers, then you will be totally disappointed with the Windows 98 version of Motocross Madness. We have found that the controls are spotty, with the left mouse button triggering the last player only.

If you’re wondering why we have taken this old version of Motocross Madness, it is due to all of the features that it has which are not included in the current version of the game. For example, the dgVoodoo2 version of Motocross Madness comes with 4.0 software. In addition, it came with a cover (with the Ghost Riders graphics), 21-track gameplay list, 4 difficulty levels and many exclusive features such as ghost challenges, 3-player multiplayer and bonus exercises.

On the other hand, the current version of Motocross Madness does not come with these extra features, in fact, when we tried to load it up, we received the error message “The game is not available for this platform.” However, there is a way to get around this error message by purchasing a patch. In fact, a small number of people have indeed been able to play the “patch-less” version of Motocross Madness using their Windows 98 machines. Unfortunately, this will probably only last for a few months, as Microsoft have stated that the Windows 98 version of Motocross Madness will no longer be supported in June of 2002. Meanwhile, the Microsoft Game Studio team are working on the Windows NT version of Motocross Madness 2.

The graphics options for Motocross Madness are extremely simple. There are two settings to choose, Resolution and Aspect Ratio. The resolution choice refers to the amount of details you see on the screen. The lower the number, the higher the detail in your display. Aspect Ratio refers to the ratio of the display’s width to its height. For example, a 4:3 aspect ratio displays 4:3, meaning that the display’s width is equal to 4 times the height. Our chosen resolution is 1280 x 720 and the Aspect Ratio is 16:9. You can try playing with the options yourself, but generally you shouldnt need to alter anything. If you want to adjust things to your liking, the main settings are in the game itself. Turn down the in-game Performance Level and turn it up the more voxelized your game looks. There are no real timing differences between classic and modern platforms. Aside from the modem issue, Motocross Madness is true to its arcade roots. Each track has its own unique timing which weve included here to help players familiarize themselves with the game.
With a couple of exceptions, the controls in the classic version of Motocross Madness work well and are easy to pick up. They can all be mapped to the keyboard, so its simple to assign them. In addition, the following keys control the vehicles:
