like a glm, a correlation kernel can be specified as a function of d(x,y), but unlike a glm, it need not be polynomial in d(x,y). because this kernel is related to a net, the work of neal and the two phd students of umd can be seen as a special case of the work of bahris and hall. similarly, the theory of glms can be considered a special case of the theory of neural networks with many hidden layers.
