The Domino Connector is a client-server application running on Lotus Notes server and on client computers. It provides a bridge between Lotus Notes client and Domino server, enabling users to open and modify documents in a Notes client, then synchronize these changes back to the server. The Domino Connector consists of three main components:

a Domino.NET Interop (interop.domino.dll) interface
a Java-based proxy
MIM Synchronization Service

The platform independence of the Lotus Domino Connector makes it suitable for universal use on any computer, regardless of OS. This is a major advantage over the client-server application Lotus Connector which is an application that runs on a computer, not a server. Because the Domino Connector is a client-server application, it provides the user with two main advantages:

there is no need for the server application to be distributed with the Domino Connector
there is no need for a user to install the server application on the client computer

The Domino Connector allows you to import and synchronize documents stored on the client computer back to the server computer. This document flow is as follows:

The user creates a document in Lotus Notes client using the Domino Connector
The document is synchronized to the server using the Domino Connector
The user changes the document in Lotus Notes client using the Domino Connector
The changed document is synchronized back to the server using the Domino Connector

The IBM Notes Domino connector for Microsoft.NET platform is provided in DLL format that allow you to connect to a Domino server using.NET. This connector uses the COM interop to connect to Domino server. To use this connector, in addition to the Lotus Domino runtime on the client machine, you also need the Microsoft.NET Domino Library (Microsoft.Notes.Interop.dll). This library is provided with the Notes Domino connector. In order to use this library you need to reference it and mark it as a reference. The library is located in the directory C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedMicrosoft.Notes.Domino

use the ibm notes logon service client to authenticate users to this connector. the ibm notes logon service client is a program for establishing secure connections to lotus domino servers. the client supports connecting to both web-enabled and mail-enabled lotus domino servers. for more information about using the ibm notes logon service client, see using the ibm notes logon service client .
in this connector, database authentication can be implemented as oauth 2.0. the oauth 2.0 protocol allows user access to resources without sharing their credentials with the application. for more information about using oauth, see using oauth 2.0 in domino 8.5.2 . this capability is required for the signon agent service to proxy the authentication.
the nsf format is proprietary. therefore, hpe keyview accesses nsf files indirectly by using the lotus notes api. because the nsf reader relies on functionality in lotus notes, a lotus notes client or lotus domino server must be installed and configured on the same machine as the application that displays the nsf files.
