I am trying to run a Python script that requires a Raspberry Pi but instead of just compiling the RPi Software I have opted to buy a Pi 2. It feels just like the RPi so far as I have a few apps on it and my RPi is really quiet and I don’t see any signs of overheating.
However, I am using the Pi to monitor a PT1000 temperature sensor that constantly sends the data through a serial port to my PC for recording (the Pi has a small screen and software for viewing the data on the screen).
The Pi was running for approximately 15 minutes until the heat had reached the point of caution, which is when I logged off the system to do maintenance.
I am not familiar with Raspberry Pis and I know there are various reasons and precautions to take but I wasn’t warned about the overheatings being a potential problem and wanted to know if anyone else has come across this problem with Pi 2s and what may have caused it?

The Pi is running the Python serial (RTU) application, so it is using a fairly slow PWM (pulse width modulation) driver to display temperature, it can’t be faster because that would fry the device.
Also, the Pi has about 700 ma of current being drawn from a regulated power supply. This means that the device can dissipate a certain amount of power at a certain temperature.

A 700 mA power supply will dissipate approximately 1/3 Watt at a temperature of 100°C
