If you spend a lot of time working on the computer, you might be interested in becoming more disciplined, especially when it comes to important projects. This means that you should get any distractions out of the way.
There are many types of software products to help you in this regard, and one of them is KeyCounter. It's a pretty basic Windows application designed to monitor the times when you are active on the computer. It cannot actually track the activity you're conducting on the workstation but only monitor time.
Keep track of time spent working on the computer
The software program doesn't need installation since it's wrapped in a portable package. Therefore, you can unzip the downloaded archive and double-click the .exe to launch the tool right away. KeyCounter creates an icon in the systray menu at startup, silently monitoring your activity time, depending on the times when you press keys on the keyboard, without interrupting you with any popup messages.
Double-clicking the tray icon brings up the main app window, where you can check out a graph with the uptime of the current day as well as find out the exact start and end time of each interval of activity.
View history of monitored time intervals
Right-clicking the systray icon opens a menu, where you can also view the history of all days when KeyCounter was used to keep track of your PC activity. Unfortunately, there are no options implemented for exporting any of this data to file.
KeyCounter is a pretty old application that hasn't received updates for a long time. In fact, the software project doesn't seem to be in development anymore. Nevertheless, we tested it on the newest Windows edition and it worked flawlessly. We haven't experienced any compatibility issues. Also, as expected, the tool had minimal impact on system performance.
All aspects considered, KeyCounter may be a simplistic application but it can be a helpful ally to keep you focused on work by monitoring time spent on the PC.
NetStat provides you with a lot of useful statistics about network traffic and service usage that are useful for network administrators, system administrators and anyone else who wants to monitor network traffic.
NetStat Description
Netstat is a command-line utility that enables you to view the configuration settings of network devices, all TCP and UDP connections in a local or wide-area network, IP routing tables, listen and failover ports, and network statistics. You can even create and view the TCP/IP and UDP/IP configuration files.
What NetStat Can Do
NetStat shows which software applications are using the network, e.g. how many and which programs use which ports, and how much data has been sent and received on any network connection. You can set up a network connection, which displays the connection settings, e.g. the IP address and port that you are connected to. You can view the network TCP/IP configuration data, including the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway.
When you view the TCP/IP networking configurations, you can view and edit connection settings, such as IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway. You can also see the routing table, which shows any routes that you set up. You can also monitor and set the status of services, such as HTTP servers, services such as BitTorrent, FTP servers, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server.
When a service is running, you can see the type of traffic that is using the connection, e.g. what protocols the application is using. The type of traffic can be identified by the connection information.
The command-line utility is very versatile, and can be used to view more than just connections; it is also used to create, edit, and delete TCP/IP configurations, show network statistics, show the list of active service, etc.
You can use the command-line utility to start and stop services and applications.
NetStat Features
NetStat displays IP routing tables, which show all routing paths, e.g. through the Internet. It also shows a list of all active TCP and UDP connections with their local and remote ports, protocol, and state. You can view the local and remote IP addresses and the local and remote port numbers. You can set a service to start on boot, which shows the service details, such as port, application, and protocol. How to get started with KeyCounter:
KeyCounter is an application that monitors
the activity time without intruding you with
any prompts, popups or banners. It is
available in the Systray Software category,
under the Software type “System Utilities”.
You can download a free trial version of
the software from the website and try it
out without making any changes to your
system. If you want to purchase the full
version, you will have to register an
account to install the application from the
Internet.
Finally, KeyCounter doesn’t record what
you’re doing on the workstation, but just
tracks the activity time. You might get an
idea of it if you compare the activity
time with the time when you use some other
software to keep track of your time.

Customizable window layout:
The main advantage of KeyCounter is that it gives you an option to personalize your main interface. You can create your custom layout either by using a predefined template (all controls arranged in predefined positions) or completely design a layout of your choosing.
There are plenty of controls present on the window:
The main pane lets you view the time when a task on the computer started, at what time it ended, as well as the duration of the task.
You can easily navigate between current tasks using the menu on the left.
The opening menu can be configured to display the number of tasks you have running at a time or to switch between predefined windows.
You can easily create your own new task by clicking the Plus sign on the menu.
You can pause, resume, or reset the current task using the buttons next to the task name.
The Windows Notification Area Icon shows up when a new window is opened and you can just move the mouse pointer over it to switch to the application window.
The interface can be switched between a full-screen mode and a windowed layout using the Windows menu.
The main window supports the task switching mode. To enter the mode, use the hotkey Ctrl + 1.
The Options window lets you customize the theme, color and font for the main window.
KeyCounter Basic Features:

Eliminate active window:
You can also switch focus to the application window by pressing hotkey Ctrl + Alt + 2.
