course objective: students will be able to identify the points of view of different stakeholders of the common core. students will be able to use video or audio recording strategies to reflect on their learning. finally, learners will be able to apply concepts and strategies learned to the learning of problems related to real world tasks.

students will be evaluated on their ability to apply the skills in one question per lesson. the principle of evaluating students ability to solve word problems will be taught by providing examples of what students should be able to do and what they should not be able to do. students will also be required to demonstrate a level of understanding of the common core standards for mathematical practices by having a display of their understanding of what the standards look like and how they can be used to help teachers plan lessons and provide differentiated instruction. students are required to write a reflection describing how their learning was affected by the video. students will be given a multiple choice questions (with 4 possible answers) on the video. this will allow them to reflect on how the video made them feel, how the knowledge and skills the lesson induced them to use, how the lesson scaffolded their learning. students will be assigned a rubric to accompany their reflection and be asked to evaluate themselves on it. at the end of the week, a portfolio will be graded from each of their reflections by the instructor to identify strengths and weaknesses.

the softwares certify mode is where students complete assigned homework problems. there is a table in the lower part of the screen that shows the number of problems, the number of strikes for incorrect answers, and the maximum number of strikes allowed to pass the certification. if a student earns too many strikes, they must reattemptthecertify for that lesson. students are allowed an unlimited number of attempts to certify. if the computer is connected to the internet, the student will receive a notice that their certification has been registered and a grade will show up in their progress report. if the computer is not connected to the internet, the student will need to submit the certificate manually on a computer that has internet access. students can also save and print the certificate for their records.

efficient learning and practice of essential skills is key to active learning in college, and assessing our learning. in the early years of college, the overwhelming majority of first year students are not on track in their math performance. one way to assess their learning is to look at the assessments done during their freshman year. the feedback to the students is a major component of development of the program. students get their college experience defined by their learning and growth and that of the college as well. the college’s goal is to help all students learn, but at the same time, work toward students who are successful in college, where their learning makes a difference in their lives and their future. college success means setting students up for high school and the workforce.
explore linear equations using interactive learning tools with the k tables. geogebra and interactive practice items are used to investigate linear, quadratic, and exponential functions and their graphs, and the effect of a translation on a table of values.
explore the difference between positive and negative numbers. the concept of absolute value is introduced. functions of several variables are graphed using polar coordinates. students explore linear and exponential functions, absolute value equations, rational expressions, and exponential and logarithmic functions. a major focus is the use of the coordinate plane graph, using the xy coordinate plane as a foundation.
this course is aimed at preparing students for college algebra. our primary goal is to help students be successful from the first day of first grade through high school. our assessment process is designed to be collaborative and assist our students at all levels. students can come to all our sessions, or for any who are on modified schedules, we will look at tutoring/assessment. at the end of the course we will decide if the student needs additional tutoring/assessment time. we will also help the students who need additional help.
