After six years together, Commodores called it quits in 1987 with an unforgettable statement: ‘We don’t really feel like a group any more.’ Well, they’re back, rekindling a musical bond that dates back to their early days in Detroit. After a three-and-a-half-year hiatus, the duo released a new album, Straight No Chaser, this past July. The album spawned one Top 40 single, the title track ‘Straight No Chaser’.’

And even more so than the Backstreet Boys would, is the lack of group involvement on “Cinderella”. The only guest features are Ne-Yo who sings the middle eight and Chris Kirkpatrick of 112 who adds a soothing synth background. Still, Lionel points the way for what will be his next sound and we can expect that, as stated, it will feature the Backstreet Boys.

A little bit of evidence of what lies ahead can be seen here in the chorus of the song, where Lionel tells his lover that theres always going to be a room for both of them. And as is usually his wont, Lionel ends the song with “Lets make love” rather than “Lets make love tonight”. He can only hope that any girl hes talking about doesnt get the wrong idea.

Being the singer for Lionel Richie is like being the head librarian at the New York Public Library. As you walk down a corridor of bookshelves, the books are alphabetized by author, then title, then genre and in reverse alphabetization. Sometimes, a book from one shelf will fall off its perch and crash to the floor on the other side, but Lionel always knows where it should be. The music library is similar. You have no idea what he means when he says, Every rapper I want to work with is playing my record, but I have to wait and see what they think. It must be a hit; otherwise, why would they be playing it?
I had lunch with Lionel Richie yesterday and he wants to make his album this year. It was so funny and personal. When we were talking about the album, he said he wants to do an album for his people, his fans. And he wants to make an album for the next generation of singers.
I talked to Lionel Richie, someone I respect a lot. Its very noble what he did with his problems, what hes trying to do and how he feels about it. Im not surprised that he decided to do it. He has a lot of respect for me and there are a lot of friends, who are artists, who can relate to what he is doing.
