Roblox is an online game platform and game creation system developed by Roblox Corporation that allows users to program games and play games created by other users. Roblox Corporation is an American video game developer headquartered in San Francisco, California. Roblox was founded by two former employees of Disney’s Hyperkin, David Baszucki and Erik Cassel.
The game allows users to use its character tools to build upon the environment of the platform and the games themselves using the Lua programming language. There are no set content requirements, except that the platform is intended for ages 10 and up. Users can create their own content or modify content created by others. Users pay for the opportunity to create content with Robux, the in-game currency. Robux can be purchased with real money, or earned by playing, completing tasks, and inviting friends. Like most video games, Roblox provides these activities through gameplay. Roblox Corporation also sells merchandise, including clothing, toys, and other items.
The Roblox Corporation website describes its mission as “empowering people to imagine and build amazing games, experiences, and fun.” In a blog post, Roblox Corporation describes its vision as “play anywhere, anytime, and with anyone. The game is controlled by Drifter sitting on a chair. The chair is placed on a flat surface, about a metre or less from the bottom of the playing field. The game is played between two teams. There is a big screen, where you can see the whole playing field from the two sides. At the bottom of the screen, the numbers 1 to 14 are shown. The teams are led by designated number 1, 2, and 3.
