this is a digital release through amazon and mango’s website. the latter includes the full album, a remix and mango’s entire discography, including mango’s work with the doors of the silence (a band keshav, a member of the band, also composes for).

if you were expecting the mango discografia completa to be released around the same time as the ponto de entrada, you’ll be disappointed. for his next mango project, he’s working with tô oficial, a brazilian rap group. the album is named simplicius 2 and it’ll be released in january 2020. the name is a reference to simplicius, the slave who, when he was freed, wanted to change his name to simplicio.

there are many many many many mango songs, and most of them are “hits”, like “husky” from “hot mango flush”, “skat” from “everything you always wanted to know about ’60s mind expansive punkadelic garage rock” and “mang-shim” from the “solidarittslied”.

in her book “in the now: a biography of donna summer”, kirsten acuna notes that “mango picked up the slack where she and her then- boyfriend michael jackson left off” while recording the who’s “it” album in new york.

once a singer of the mango band, betty rock achieved some notability as a tv host. the mango/gangsta style brand is now owned by mango and has expanded to include bathing soaps, fabric softeners, laundry detergents, deodorants, etc.

It could hardly be more different than the ponytailed crooners with The Henry Mancini Orchestra, Keita Chege’s tune selection for the Mango Encyclopedia is eclectic, eclectic and bizarrely accurate as it shows how eclectic, eclectic and bizarrely accurate the Mango Encyclopedia is. Keita, a “loud” singer, forms a trio with a Bantu, Le Kouakou, on drums and Jean-Claude Makanda on the bass, the trio is headed up by Dubois on piano, trumpet and “accordion,” played the way you would expect in a Congolese band, with just a sprinkle of jazz on a few tracks. Makanda and Dubois are the core of the band; there’s no-one else within sight. On the first track, “Conscience”, the two Bantu’s harmonise over a funky drum rhythm, or possibly an African bongo, while the rest of the band play a groove that might be from the Ghana scene or, even, the Malian one, or both. On “White Love,” the centrepiece from the band’s debut album, they are joined by Tcheposso on brass and keyboards, and the result is a furious, funky, hard-edged romp. Other cover versions here include: “Ring The Bells” by The Ronettes, arranged for Keita Chege’s Mango Orchestra; “Lovely Day” by The Beatles; “You And Me (Babe)” by Fred Neil. Also from the LP is a haunting take on “Guilty As Charged” from the soundtrack to Spike Lee’s “Malcolm X” with a stunning, high-register accordion chorused choir. The galloping “Don’t Mind If I Do” has Keita Chege playing the saxophone in straight-ahead military style, and a sizzling trumpet solo by Dubois. The album finishes with a funky version of “What’s Going On.”
