With the previous version you could only open one newsgroup at a time. With this one you can open as many as you want. I hate how they added this feature, but man, once you open them from this version onward it’s a snap to just add more newsgroups. And those newsgroups are sorted by update date, so now I can look at old newsgroups and new and use the newer ones if they are more important to me. I’ve tried other clones that offer more from version 4 (such as the ability to search for names) but they charge and they don’t license you to use more than 1 newsgroup.
The ‘freeze’ on new issues is definitely a good thing.
While I do like the new fixed page look, i’d like to see it customizable. A floating navigation bar, just like the one from the old version, would be nice too. Just about everything in this app is a) customizable and b) available. Just not the GUI stuff.
I also find it a bit cumbersome that you can’t open multiple threads in the same newsgroup. Even in the old version you could do multiple. It would have been better to incorporate the idea of multiple numbers of newsgroups. I just did a search to try and find an old thread of mine that i was looking for. I went to http://findgroups.com/, picked 10 groups at a time (i.e. left off any duplicates) and even went through the trouble of searching in the group headers to find the old group I was looking for. I couldn’t find it. Bottom line, it just makes this app more difficult to use. Yes, I can probably figure out some work arounds, but I don’t like doing that if it’s harder than it should be. Do they really think we want to spend time tweaking, hacking and workarounds to make a program we’ve already paid for work correctly? God, I hope not!

This is simply the best newsreader there is. I’ve tried so many and it’s by far the most stable. I rarely find myself stuck on NewsLeecher. It looks really good and you are given a lot of flexibility and feature options. I’m generally on a slow connection and the speed thing doesn’t bother me at all.
