there are two ways to use mhvtl. you can use the mhvtl management console which is a web-based interface that allows you to perform tape library management operations. alternatively, you can use the vtl shell, which is a fully integrated client for accessing tape libraries. both offer the same functionality and can be used to perform the same operations on the local library, with the vtl shell being the primary method for accessing the library.

the mhvtl management console is located on the virtual appliance running as the mhvtl server and can be accessed over the network using http://localhost:7191. you can also connect to the vtl shell using a web browser. i did not like using a browser for this because of the constant internet connection requirements, so my preferred option is to use putty to access it from any computer on the network and this was how i did it. the vtl shell is a full client and can be installed on any pc that has access to the archive and tape library storage. in my case, i installed the vtl shell on a computer running my windows 2012 backup server. a shortcut to the vtl shell can be added to the windows desktop and this was how i accessed it. although the vtl shell is simple and intuitive to use, i still managed to login to an invalid user account.

Considerations to keep in mind when using a such a system: Start by booting a Ubuntu VM that has Scalar Virtual Box installed and run the following command: 1. We also recommend configuring iLayers Cloud API to enable a 24/7 alert system to allow administrators to be notified of any potential issues. Note: you need to login as the central admin user which has “admin” authority granted in the Python endpoints to access the Cloud APIs, so you’ll need to login to the Cloud with this in mind. I wrote a simple script in Python to pop open the GUI for each of those tools and then enter an admin password I had generated, allowing me to start the backup job, load the software on my physical kit, and then immediately run a recovery job.
