## What’s a Layer?

Catarina Madruga
Catarina Madruga (born 31 July 1960) is a Brazilian former freestyle swimmer.
Biography
She won one bronze medal in the 200 m freestyle at the 1982 South American Games and two silver medals in the 100 m freestyle at the 1982 European Aquatics Championships and the 1983 Pan American Games. At the 1984 Summer Olympics she won the gold medal in the 4×100 m freestyle relay.
At the 1985 World Aquatics Championships she finished 7th in the 100 m freestyle, 3rd in the 4×100 m freestyle and the 4×200 m freestyle, and 4th in the 4×100 m medley. At the 1986 European Championships she finished 5th in the 100 m freestyle and 3rd in the 4×100 m freestyle, and 4th in the 4×200 m freestyle. She also finished 9th in the 4×100 m medley.
Her best performances at the world and continental championships were in the 100 m freestyle, where she set a new world record of 48.04 at the 1986 European Championships.
She also competed at the 1980, 1982 and 1983 World Aquatics Championships.

Islamabad: Ousted Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif on Friday offered to live on donations from impoverished Pakistanis, saying he was ready to die if they refused to pay him (in crumpled notes of Rs 200 and Rs 500). “I have nothing to lose,” he told an audience at an event for Pakistan’s most deprived people. “I will live on your hospitality and will die if you (donate) not.”
