Another thing that you can always do with Adobe Photoshop is to upgrade your license. This is something that you can do at any time you want. Lightroom 5 comes with all the capabilities of a full-blown professional grade photo editing tool, complete with a color engine that makes even more pixels than the previous version of Adobe CS6, and some new features. There is also better support for the latest proprietary RAW formats, more robust controls for image organization, and a new Look Development System. For the most part, I am not as impressed by Lightroom 5, but it’s still very much worth checking out.

I’ve used Lightroom 4 for over nine years. I’ve been very happy with the software, though I’ve run into issues several times. I’m waffling for several reasons. The first is that the application is early in its development, so a lot of us don’t know whether it will be as reliable as it has been in the past or if changes in the new OS will make it work in a different way. I’m not sure how to know about that yet. Lightroom development seems to have stopped for a while. There was a need for a more robust management of flash media in the older version of Lightroom, so they added new element’s. Lightroom 5 needed something else that I’m not sure anyone has bothered to provide yet, and developers aren’t sure if that will be sufficient. Many of the Adobe apps simply don’t feel as up to date and stable as they once did, and a couple of the features are half finished.

As with the previous versions, I’ll start here with the upgrades. Lightroom 5 has some nice ones. I like the fact that I can quickly and easily resize photos in the browser, just as in Lightroom. Lightroom 5 does have a new browser, too, with some very nice improvements.

A dark image is often a powerful one that draws the attention of the viewer. One of the best spots in a photo to effectively add a different hue or color is in the sky. If you shoot a photo in a dark environment, many times the sky is one of the brightest colors and it can look really dramatic in the image.

These are a set of pre-defined settings that adjust one or more areas of the image so you can make the image pop from a uniform feeling to look more unique. While you often use LUTs when processing raw images, they are extremely useful if you never perform any raw adjustments. LUTs are useful if you would like to accentorure your image or bring it “up” by choosing a different look for that area. They are also great if you use only green or red, green and amber, or cyan and amber for a particular game or activity, etc

Most people are familiar with the red-eye photo effect. It is when a person’s pupils reflect the camera flash in their eye as a bright red color. Red-eye can be a really difficult issue to address because it’s caused by how our eyes react to the light and that the red-eye is often not centered in the exact same area as the flash.

Nearly all photographs have some depth of field so that the subject stays sharp. This is the area within your camera’s ability to focus and create a picture.
